ABOUT US
The Bartolomé lab at the Biomedical Research Institute (IIBM, CSIC) studies pancreatic β cells. These cells produce and secrete insulin, the hormone that reguates blood glucose levels. Diabetes occurs when β cells are not able to match the body demand for insulin.
Our research focuses on the processes that determine β cell mass, and the genetic factors that might explain the differential risk for disease.
